| Whereas, the Greek
community is a vital part of undergraduate campus life and seeks to promote and to engage
students in an ongoing process of personal and group development, and to provide an
understanding and appreciation of the diversity of the peoples on the campus; and Whereas, heterosexism, behavior which makes
individuals the target of oppression, harassment or discrimination based upon their
homosexual or bisexual orientation, is directly counter to the ideals of the educational
experience and shall not be tolerated or permitted; and
Whereas, the Western Regional Greek
Conference has addressed these issues in its 1991 programming; therefore
Be it resolved, that the Western
Regional Greek Conference member campuses, through their InterFraternity and Panhellenic
Councils, be strongly encouraged to challenge all behaviors and attitudes which are
heterosexist in nature; and
Be it further resolved, that Western
Regional Greek Conference member campuses, through their InterFraternity and Panhellenic
Councils, discourage and seek to ban from their campuses all activities, competitions,
social events and themes, membership recruitment attractions and other practices which are
heterosexist in nature; and
Be it further resolved, that the
Western Regional Greek Conference strongly encourages its member campuses to develop and
implement ongoing sexual orientation awareness, education, and sensitivity programs for
the Greek communities; and
Be it further resolved, that the
Western Regional Greek Conference member campuses be made aware of this resolution through
the WRGC Newsletter.
