A few years back, while still an undergraduate at Cornell, I struggled with the very real necessity to tell my fraternity brothers I was gay.  The angst I felt has been documented since in a book entitled Brotherhood: Gay Life in College Fraternities.  The editor of this important work is none other than Shane Windmeyer, a very prominent figure in the realm of gay fraternity issues.

To understand the significance of Lambda 10’s ten-year anniversary, it is important to understand how far GLBT Greeks have come in that time: Ten years ago, few gay men or lesbian women felt safe coming out to their college fraternities or sororities, and virtually none rushed openly gay. Closeted GLBT fraternity and sorority members had no one to turn to for advice. And most fraternities and sororities still had not added sexual orientation to their anti-discrimination policies.  Ten years later, we have seen positive progress.
